Just An Update

I really need a new job. I really need longevity on my resume. I'm still trying to decide which is a more important need. And it might be a mute point given the current economic situation. Could I even find a job?

Working 80+ hours a week. Sometimes until well after midnight. I don't have enough time for my classes, much less my writing. I feel whiny and crabby all the time. And since I am working on multiple projects and so overloaded, stuff isn't getting done in time or to a quality that I would like. I am so overwhelmed.

Oh, and then, some of the projects that I have worked on they just aren't going to get used anymore. So demoralizing. Why am I working so many hours if this stuff might not even get used?

I usually am not so whiny! I promise! I am usually very upbeat!

I even had a My Town Monday post idea, but I don't have the time to write it up. I hope to get around to everyone's blogs here either today or tomorrow.

I'm sorry! I know how much that situation is of the suck. I'm in a similar one right now. :(

Save that MTM for next week or whenever you have the time. We'll still be here.

That's a tough decision. That said, there's no way I could do 80 hours a week at any job. I have trouble with 40!

You're doing your job at least partly to pay for your classes, presumably, so if it's getting to the point where it's messing them up, you probably need a new job more than you need stability.

When work gets like that it turns us all into whiney kids. I just hate looking forward to another day after day of long hours.

Sorry, I guess that doesn't help much.

couldn't find an email address for you, so I'm going to leave this message here- hope that is okay!

Hello!

My name is Emily Schleier and I'm the Assistant Editor for a new media start-up publication titled The Printed Blog. You can download our latest issues at www.theprintedblog.com.

The Printed Blog is exactly that – a printed news publication with 100% of its content pulled from blogs and other user generated content. We are a new model of print publication based out of Chicago that has taken on the challenge of reviving the newspaper industry and turning in to a more community-based, interactive and user-generated medium.

There are many advantages to our approach at forming a new type of newspaper. First and foremost, all of our content is taken from the internet and then put through an editorial process so that we're sure our readers are only getting the best of the best when it comes to blogs, photos, music, events, etc.

With this being said, we think that your blog falls under the "best of the best" category and would feel extremely privileged if we were able to take articles from it to include in our publication. High profile blogs such as, Mashable, Daily Kos, The Bloggess, American Express and Bastard Life are all on The Printed Blog team!

All of the content that we use from the web is also completely accredited to the author and blog that it originated from, so this would be a great way to gain some exposure and bring traffic to your site.

The Printed Blog has been the point of discussion amongst many journalists and media representatives from all around the WORLD. We have been featured in many of the world's leading publications such as The New York Times, The Chicago Tribune, Business Week, Wired magazine, as well as publications in France, Spain, Brazil, Egypt and many more!

We are currently working on our tenth issue that is set to be distributed in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York and Chicago on Thursday, April 9th.

We'd love to add you to our list of blogs to pull content from in hopes to print one of your posts in an upcoming issue. Do we have your permission? We would also like to have the option of printing the images that accompany your blog posts- do you have the rights to these images? I look forward to hearing back from you and please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions. You can follow our progress on Facebook, MySpace and Twitter!

All the best,

Emily Schleier
Assistant Editor
The Printed Blog

That's an interesting post above me, heh! Um...

I completely know where you're coming from. My old job had me working weekends, late nights, every waking hour, I had no time for anything else.

Just start looking around, I guess (if you can spare the time to). Your writing and your classes are far more important, and if you're suffering because of your job, those will suffer as well -- as you can see.

Best of luck, let us know what happens.

The challenging economic conditions are having an adverse affect on all our lifestyles and hobbies. We should look at the bright side that we still have a job, however crappy it is, and carry on with life (without letting our passions die).

I m sure we will be heading for good times soon. I don't think the situation can get worse than what it is...Thomas

80 hours a week? Eegads, that sounds horrendous, Lauren! I don't know. If you could find a new job, I'd say go for it!

Is the same company that doesn't pay you on time?

I hope you feel better. I would die at 80 hours a week. I think everyone's over loaded....and going to school makes it harder!

Hope you are well and things have improved since you posted...

Thanks everyone! I am going to stick out the job for a bit. I am going to start clocking my time and leaving in order to keep my week between 40 and 45 hours. I am interviewing people today so that I can get some more help! That will be nice :)
